With the rain (hopefully) behind us and spring in full swing, it’s the perfect time to head to ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï Fish Market and enjoy a taste of the market along our boardwalk. Soak up the sun, feast on fresh seafood, and take in the view as our new home across the water gets its finishing touches.
Here are some of our favourite dishes to try this season. Perfect for spring palates and guaranteed to delight on your next visit to the market.
Poke Bowls
Nothing hits the spot in spring quite like a refreshing bowl of poke. Think bright tuna, colourful vegetables, a sprinkle of fish roe, and a sesame dressing that is seriously addictive. Best of all, it’s a quick grab-and-go option if you don’t have time to wait for something cooked to order, making it perfect for a workday lunch break. Seafood Platters
This has got to be the best way to enjoy a mix of seafood, cooked and raw, for the ultimate tasting experience. Pop into Fish Market Cafe or take a seat outdoors at The Boatshed and grab a share platter stacked to the sky with a range of seafood such as Oysters (pure, Kilpatrick or even Mornay), Prawns, Blue Swimmer Crab, salt & pepper Calamari, seared or cold Scallops, BBQ Octopus, grilled Lobster tails, crispy battered or grilled fish and finished off with some golden chips. Looks impressive, tastes even more so.
Whole Fish
One of the most popular options at our retailers (for good reason) is cooked-to-order whole fish. Available at Christie’s Seafood, Nicholas Seafood, Peter’s ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï Fish Market and The Boatshed, choose any seasonal species from the wet fish displays and get it grilled, baked, steamed or even deep-fried. Our retailers offer a wide range of sauces and sides to pick from. One of our favourite options has got to be Coral Trout, steamed with ginger and shallot sauce on a bed of rice. Not only is Coral Trout abundant in spring, but it also presents beautifully when steamed, with the fresh ginger flavours really shining through.
Steamed Oysters
If you’ve spotted the Jumbo Pacific Oysters in the market windows and felt a bit intimidated, we get it! They’re a big oyster, but steaming is a fantastic way to try them, it also shrinks them slightly. Pick your oysters at Christies Seafood and have them steamed in a sauce of your choice. We love garlic and ginger or a spicy XO sauce. Extremely fragrant, this is a great way to enjoy a cooked oyster that still tastes fresh.
Mixed Sashimi
A great way to kick off any seafood feast is with a box of mixed sashimi. Sure, Tuna, Salmon, and Kingfish are always delicious, but there are plenty more sashimi-grade cuts to explore! Pop into Get Fish and pick a mix of classics and lesser-known options, you might just discover a new favourite. Choices include Sand Whiting, Teriyaki Mackerel, Surf Clams, Snapper, wasabi-marinated Octopus, and Scallops, to name just a few.
